Thankful for Dates

During the lunar month of Ramadan, millions of muslims around the world will fast from sunrise to sundown. To break their daily fast, they will enjoy fresh dates before going to prayer time within their community. C and I had decided to go to a local grocery store in order to buy dates for our apartment's security/maintenance man after C's work day was done. This wouldn't seem like a big deal to most people, except that C has decided to fast along with his fellow teachers while at work. So by the time I pick him up, he is a bit thirsty to say the least. After picking up the dates and a few other items at the grocery store, we headed outside to our car. Sweat was pouring for every inch of our bodies before we even reached the car. To our dismay, our ears were greeted with only a quick clicking sound when the ignition key was turned. NO! Not the battery!

That very moment, a Land Cruiser pulled next to our vehicle. A local man stepped out and began talking with C. After tinkering under the hood, the man left with a promise to return soon with help. As we sat in the dripping heat, we remarked how nice this man was to help in the heat of the day while he was obviously fasting. He returned, as promised, with jumper cables and successfully brought our car back to life. It was then that C took out our fresh bag of dates and gave them to his new friend as a thank you gift. The man? He is an influential man at a regional broadcasting company. We are blessed to have met him.
